Concentration Description: This concentration is designed for pastors, associate pastors, educational ministers and family ministers. The focus of course study is the development of organizational leadership and family ministry in the church context. Courses are designed in a pragmatic fashion to fuse modern theory with practical application.

Courses: (24 Semester Hours)

Organizational Models – Exploration and assessment of current organizational theories pertinent to contextual ministry. A critical evaluation of the theories will be made with an emphasis on the student’s development of an organizational model.

 
Organizational Development – Examination of organizational models within the church context. Students will research organizational models with emphasis on one’s current ministry context. Students will develop a ministry model and implement the model in their ministry context.
 
Leadership Theory – Exploration of current leadership theories pertinent to church ministry. Students will assess current theories effectiveness and agreement with biblical leadership principles. A critical evaluation will be made with an emphasis on the student’s development of a leadership theory.
 
Leadership Development – Examination of Christian leadership within the church context. Students will research leadership styles with an emphasis on the development of one’s ability to lead others. Students will develop their understanding of people and identify ways to adjust their personal leadership style to be an effective leader.
 
Legal and Financial Issues – Evaluation of the various legal and financial issues within the church context. Students will learn how to develop procedures to safeguard employees, volunteers and the church as an organization from legal problems. Financial responsibility and budget design will be examined. Students will identify essential components to developing a budget.
 
Current Trends in Family Ministry – Exploration of biblical model of family ministry with an emphasis on the New Testament Church. Students will examine and assess current theories against the biblical model. Students will identify aspects of the theories that maintain biblical truth and relevancy to today’s families.

Family Ministry Practice– Implementation of a biblical model of family ministry. Students will develop and implement a model of family ministry in their current ministry context.

 
Relational Ministry – Exploration of the various aspects of church ministry. Students will learn how to handle various ministry situations as well as develop a ministry strategy to implement in their current ministry context.
